Salvage Question - Guild Wars Forums

For basics, what does "salvage" mean.

I did a search but didnt find any basics, only guids.

Ive found salvagable items in BWE but either sold them or tossed them.

So from what I understand you have to have a salvage kit and then you use it to see if the item is hiding some sorta extra value or what?

Explain please...

You salvage items in order to get raw material which is in turn used to craft armor.
